Datsun Bluebird 510 SSS

Datsun Bluebird 510 SSS or mostly called 510 or SSS are famous among Malaysian old school car enthusiast. Quad lamp design, boxy shape body, rear wheel layout, independent rear suspension system (on some models only) had attracted many enthusiast to love this car.

Launched in August 1958, this nice looking car had several kind of body styles; 2 door sedan, 4 door sedan, 2 door coupe and 5 door station wagon. It's also have some varieties in their engine selection. Datsun had launch six type of engine for this car; 1.3L L13, 1.3L J13, 1.4L L14, 1.5L J15, 1.6L L16 and 1.8L L18. In Malaysia, we only just got the L series engine type of Datsun 510, L13, L16 and L18.

Most enthusiast will maintain the original engine to maintain the original look from the factory, but some of them try to change the engine to more powerful engine that can be transplant into this car such as SR20DET/CA18DET/KA24DE from Nissan Silvia, FJ20DET from Nissan Skyline R30/R31, 4AGE/GZE from Toyota AE86, 13B-REW/12A from Mazda RX-7, F20C from Honda S2000 and many more.

Not only famous in Malaysia, this car also being famous all around the globe especially old school cars enthusiast. If you search Datsun 510 pictures in Google, you can see that all kind of modification or restoration of this car around the world. One of the famous restorer of this car is Mario Lozano. His 510 2 door coupe restoration had been acknowledge by every 510 owner. His nice work on the car made the car so nice and powerful, rocking the SR20DET motor from Nissan Silvia S15 and other performance upgrade. As an owner of a fabrication store, he can customize all kind of things for his beloved car.

Other than Mario Lozano, there are some racing teams are modifying and restoring this nice baby. One of them is BRE Datsun Racing team. BRE Racing team is one of the famous racing team in 1960's. BRE stands for Brock Racing Enterprise, and Brock himself as the owner of the racing team. The team has modified 2 Datsun 510 and had won some trophies.

As myself, just like others old school car enthusiast, also in love with this car. The nice sound of L16/L18 4 straight inline motor with twin SU or twin carburetor (Weber/Solex/Mikuni) will definitely make me melt. The nice looking exterior, quad lamp design, boxy shape body, chrome trimming around the car, and combined with nice set of old school type rims will make anyone who look the car automatically fall in love with it.

Datsun 510 is a very nice car. It definitely a best choice for any old school cars enthusiast that love old school cars. Although it's a old car, but the passion owning it is there.
